Specialist diagnosis and treatment for flat feet, helping improve comfort, foot function and long-term mobility.

Flat feet, also known as fallen arches, occur when the arches of the feet collapse, causing the entire sole to make contact with the ground. Many people with flat feet experience no symptoms, but for others it can lead to pain, fatigue, instability and difficulties with walking or activity.

There isn’t always a reason for having flat feet, it might just be the way your feet are. But sometimes the low arches are caused by something else such as a tendon injury, arthritis or a childhood bone development issue.

At The Coriel Clinic, our consultant-led specialists provide expert assessment and tailored treatment plans for flat feet. We focus on identifying the root cause of your symptoms and offering individualised care that reduces discomfort, improves function and supports long-term foot health. Whether your symptoms are new or longstanding, we’re here to guide you through effective treatment options.

What are the Symptoms of Flat Feet?

Symptoms of flat feet can vary from mild to more pronounced and may include:

  • Pain or aching in the feet, especially along the arches.
  • Pain in the heel or ankle
  • Fatigue or discomfort after long periods of standing or walking.
  • Poor foot stability or a feeling of “rolling in” at the ankle.
  • Difficulty with certain activities or footwear
  • Pain that radiates into the lower leg or knee
  • Visible flattening of the arch when standing.

Some people may also notice uneven wear on shoes or altered walking patterns due to changes in foot alignment. Flat feet can lead to damage to tendons and to nerves in the ankles and also arthritis so it’s important to seek treatment if you are experiencing foot problems.

What Treatments are Available for Flat Feet?

Treatment for flat feet depends on your symptoms, activity level and how much the condition affects your daily life. At The Coriel Clinic, we provide personalised, consultant-led care that may include both non-surgical and, where appropriate, surgical options.

Non-surgical treatments may include:

  • Footwear advice to support the arches and reduce strain.
  • Custom orthotics to improve alignment and redistribute pressure.
  • Physiotherapy to strengthen foot and lower limb muscles.
  • Activity modification to alleviate pain and prevent overloading.
  • Stretching programmes to improve flexibility and function
  • Taking anti-inflammatory painkillers such as ibuprofen

These conservative approaches aim to improve comfort, support foot mechanics and prevent symptom progression.

Surgical treatment may be considered when conservative care does not provide sufficient relief and there is clear structural deformity contributing to persistent symptoms. Your consultant will discuss the most appropriate options, including the benefits, risks and expectations for recovery.

Our goal is to help you achieve lasting comfort, improved foot function and better quality of life with expert care every step of the way.
