Expert care for foot and ankle sports injuries, focused on relieving pain and supporting a safe return to sport and activity.

Foot and ankle sports injuries are common among both professional athletes and people who enjoy recreational physical activity. These injuries typically occur during sports or exercise that involve running, jumping, sudden changes in direction or repetitive impact on the feet and ankles. Activities such as football, rugby, tennis, running and gym training can place significant strain on the joints, ligaments and tendons in this area.

Sports injuries can affect the bones, ligaments, tendons and muscles of the foot and ankle, leading to pain, swelling and reduced mobility. The severity of these injuries can vary, ranging from mild strains and ligament sprains to more complex problems such as fractures, tendon injuries or stress fractures caused by repeated overuse.

Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are important to ensure proper healing and to prevent long-term complications such as chronic instability or recurring injury. At The Coriel Clinic, our specialist consultants provide expert assessment and personalised treatment plans designed to relieve pain, restore function and support a safe return to sport and everyday activity.

What are the Symptoms of Foot & Ankle Sports Injuries?

Symptoms of foot and ankle sports injuries can vary depending on the type of injury and its severity. Some injuries may cause immediate pain following activity or trauma, while others develop gradually due to repeated strain or overuse. Common symptoms may include: Pain during or after activity

  • Swelling and bruising
  • Difficulty walking or bearing weight
  • Instability or weakness
  • Tenderness in specific areas
  • Reduced mobility

If symptoms persist, worsen, or make it difficult to continue normal activities or sports, a specialist assessment is recommended to accurately diagnose the injury and guide appropriate treatment.

What Treatments are Available for Foot and Ankle Sports Injuries?

Treatment for Foot and Ankle Sports Injuries depends on your symptoms, activity level and how much the condition affects your daily life. At The Coriel Clinic, we provide personalised, consultant-led care that may include both non-surgical and, where appropriate, surgical options.

  • Rest, ice, compression, elevation (RICE)
  • Physiotherapy rehabilitation
  • Bracing or taping
  • Pain relief medication
  • Custom orthotics
  • Surgery for severe injuries (e.g., ligament repair, fracture fixation)

Surgical treatment may be considered when conservative care does not provide sufficient relief and there is clear structural deformity contributing to persistent symptoms. Your consultant will discuss the most appropriate options, including the benefits, risks and expectations for recovery.
