Expert care for carpal tunnel syndrome, focused on reducing symptoms and improving comfortable hand use.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common nerve compression condition that affects the wrist and hand. It occurs when the median nerve — which runs through a narrow passage in the wrist called the carpal tunnel — becomes compressed or irritated. This can lead to discomfort, altered sensation and functional limitations in the hand.

Carpal tunnel syndrome often develops gradually and can be associated with repetitive hand or wrist use, certain medical conditions, or biomechanical stress. At The Coriel Clinic, our consultant-led specialists provide expert diagnosis and tailored treatment plans designed to relieve symptoms, protect nerve function, and support a return to comfortable everyday activity.

What Are the Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome can vary, but commonly include:

  • Tingling or “pins and needles” in the thumb, index, middle or ring fingers
  • Numbness in the affected fingers, especially at night
  • Weakness or clumsiness when gripping objects.
  • Pain or discomfort in the wrist or hand
  • A sensation of swelling in the fingers (even without visible swelling)
  • Difficulty with precise hand movements

Symptoms often worsen with repetitive hand or wrist use and may improve temporarily with shaking or “flicking” the hand.

What Treatments Are Available for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome depends on symptom severity and how much it affects daily activities. At The Coriel Clinic, we provide personalised, consultant-led care with both conservative and surgical options where appropriate.

Non-surgical treatments may include:

  • Activity modification and ergonomic advice to reduce strain on the wrist.
  • Splints or braces to support the wrist and limit nerve irritation.
  • Targeted physiotherapy to improve wrist mechanics.
  • Anti-inflammatory measures to reduce pain and swelling.
  • Corticosteroid injections where clinically appropriate to relieve nerve compression.

These approaches aim to reduce symptoms, protect nerve function, and improve wrist comfort.

Surgical treatment may be recommended when symptoms are persistent, severe, or significantly impact function. Carpal tunnel release surgery involves gently opening the ligament that forms the top of the carpal tunnel, relieving pressure on the median nerve.

Your consultant will explain all suitable options, including benefits, risks, and recovery expectations, so you can make an informed decision that’s right for you.

Our goal is to help you achieve lasting symptom relief and improved hand function with compassionate, expert care.
