Consultant-led assessment and treatment for hip bursitis, supporting reduced inflammation and improved hip function.

Hip bursitis is a common condition that occurs when the small fluid-filled sacs (bursae) that reduce friction around the hip joint become irritated or inflamed. This inflammation can lead to persistent pain and discomfort, especially during movement or pressure on the outside of the hip.

Hip bursitis can develop due to repetitive activity, sudden increases in exercise, biomechanical imbalances, muscle tightness, or direct impact. While often manageable with conservative care, it can sometimes affect mobility and quality of life.

At The Coriel Clinic, our consultant-led specialists provide expert assessment and personalised treatment plans to help reduce pain, improve hip function, and support your recovery.

What Are the Symptoms of Hip Bursitis?

Symptoms of hip bursitis can vary, but commonly include:

  • Pain or tenderness on the outside of the hip
  • Discomfort that worsens with activity, walking, climbing stairs or prolonged standing
  • Pain when lying on the affected side.
  • Stiffness and aching around the hip joint.
  • Reduced range of movement due to discomfort
  • Pain that may radiate down the thigh

Symptoms can develop gradually and may be mistaken for other hip issues. If pain persists, specialist evaluation can help ensure an accurate diagnosis.

What Treatments Are Available for Hip Bursitis?

Treatment for hip bursitis depends on the severity of symptoms and your individual needs. At The Coriel Clinic, we provide personalised, consultant-led care with a focus on relieving pain, reducing inflammation, and improving function.

Non-surgical treatments may include:

  • Activity modification to reduce strain on the hip.
  • Targeted physiotherapy to improve strength, flexibility, and biomechanics.
  • Anti-inflammatory measures to relieve pain and swelling.
  • Advice on footwear or gait changes to reduce pressure.
  • Injection therapy where clinically appropriate

These conservative approaches aim to address both symptoms and underlying contributing factors.

Surgical treatment is rarely required but may be considered if symptoms persist despite conservative care or if other hip pathology is present. Your consultant will discuss all options with you, including expected outcomes, risks and recovery guidance.

Our goal is to help you return to comfortable, pain-free movement with expert support at every stage of your care.
