Consultant-led diagnosis and treatment for hip osteoarthritis, supporting improved joint function and mobility.

Osteoarthritis of the hip is a common joint condition that occurs when the cartilage that cushions the hip joint gradually wears away. This can lead to pain, stiffness and reduced movement — making everyday activities like walking, climbing stairs or rising from a chair increasingly difficult or uncomfortable.

Although osteoarthritis is often associated with ageing, it can also develop as a result of injury, repetitive stress, biomechanics or genetic factors. At The Coriel Clinic, our consultant-led specialists provide comprehensive assessment and tailored treatment plans designed to help you manage symptoms, slow disease progression and maintain an active lifestyle.

What Are the Symptoms of Osteoarthritis of the Hip?

Symptoms of hip osteoarthritis can vary between individuals and often develop gradually. Common signs include:

  • Pain in the groin, buttock or outer hip, often worse with activity
  • Stiffness after resting or in the morning.
  • Reduced range of movement in the hip
  • Discomfort when walking, standing or climbing stairs.
  • A grinding or clicking sensation in the joint.
  • Pain that improves with rest but returns with use.

Symptoms can impact daily routines and activity levels. Early assessment and management can help reduce discomfort and improve function.

What Treatments Are Available for Osteoarthritis of the Hip?

Treatment for hip osteoarthritis depends on symptom severity, lifestyle and individual goals. At The Coriel Clinic, we tailor care to your needs, offering both conservative and surgical options when appropriate.

Conservative (Non-Surgical) Treatments

Many patients benefit from non-surgical management, which may include:

  • Activity modification to reduce pain-provoking movements.
  • Targeted physiotherapy to improve hip strength, flexibility and mechanics.
  • Weight-bearing advice to reduce joint stress.
  • Pain-relief strategies, including anti-inflammatory treatment where appropriate.
  • Joint injections for temporary relief in selected cases

These treatments aim to manage symptoms, enhance joint function and support long-term mobility.

Surgical Treatments

Surgery may be considered when conservative care does not provide sufficient relief or if quality of life is significantly affected. The most common surgical option is hip replacement, which can dramatically reduce pain and improve function for many patients.

Your consultant will explain all suitable options, including expected benefits, risks and recovery timelines, so you can make an informed decision about your care.

Hip Replacement Surgery Prices Initial consultation is £250. Hip Replacement Surgery from £13,000. Price includes post operative appointment.
