Knee Pain Specialist Assessment and Evidence Based Treatment

Knee pain can affect walking, stairs, sport, sleep, and confidence in your knee. At The Coriel Clinic we provide a clear diagnosis and a practical treatment plan—whether your symptoms started gradually (wear-and-tear) or suddenly (injury).

  • Same-week appointments (where available)
  • Experienced knee clinicians
  • Personalised rehab and return-to-activity plans
  • Imaging referral pathways (X-ray/MRI/ultrasound) when indicated

When to see a knee specialist Consider a specialist assessment if you have:

  • Knee pain lasting more than 2 weeks
  • Swelling, locking, giving-way, or instability
  • Pain that limits sport, work, or daily activity
  • Reduced range of movement or stiffness
  • A “pop” at the time of injury or immediate swelling
  • Recurrent pain despite rest or physiotherapy

Urgent symptoms (same day / A&E) Seek urgent help if you have:

  • A hot, red, very swollen knee with fever or feeling unwell
  • Inability to weight-bear after injury
  • A suspected fracture or deformity
  • A calf that is swollen/painful with breathlessness (possible clot)
Knee Pain

Your consultation typically includes:

  1. History (onset, sport/work demands, flare triggers, mechanical symptoms)
  2. Clinical examination (alignment, range, meniscus tests, ligament stability, patellofemoral assessment)
  3. Diagnosis & explanation in plain language
  4. Treatment plan with timelines and milestones
  5. Imaging only when it changes management (and interpretation in context)

Frequently Asked Questiions

Red flags include inability to weight-bear, significant swelling after injury, a locked knee, fever/hot swollen joint, or worsening pain despite rest. Otherwise, persistent pain beyond 2–3 weeks warrants assessment.

Not always. Many knee problems can be diagnosed clinically and improve with rehabilitation. MRI is most useful when results will change management (e.g., suspected significant meniscus tear, ligament injury, or persistent symptoms despite treatment).

Most knee pain improves without surgery. Surgery is considered when there is persistent instability, certain meniscal tear patterns, advanced arthritis with severe symptoms, or when rehabilitation fails to restore function.

Relative rest, gentle movement, avoiding flare triggers, and a structured strengthening plan are usually more helpful than complete rest. If swelling is present, short-term ice/compression may help. A clinician can tailor advice to your diagnosis.
