Expert care for knee osteoarthritis, focused on relieving pain and restoring comfortable mobility.

Osteoarthritis of the knee is a common degenerative joint condition that occurs when joint cartilage and supporting structures gradually change over time, causing pain, stiffness and reduced function. This leads to pain, stiffness, swelling and reduced mobility — making everyday activities such as walking, climbing stairs and standing for prolonged periods increasingly difficult.

Although knee osteoarthritis becomes more prevalent with age, it can also develop as a result of previous injury, repetitive stress or biomechanical imbalance. At The Coriel Clinic, our consultant-led specialists provide expert diagnosis and tailored treatment plans designed to help manage symptoms, preserve joint function and support long-term joint health.

What Are the Symptoms of Osteoarthritis of the Knee?

Symptoms of knee osteoarthritis can vary between individuals but commonly include:

  • Pain or aching in the knee, especially with activity.
  • Stiffness on waking or after periods of rest
  • Swelling or tenderness around the joint
  • Reduced range of motion or difficulty fully bending or straightening the knee.
  • A grinding, clicking or cracking sensation during movement
  • Instability or weakness in the knee
  • Pain that worsens throughout the day or with prolonged weight-bearing

These symptoms can progressively impact mobility and daily routines, affecting overall quality of life.

What Treatments Are Available for Osteoarthritis of the Knee?

Treatment for knee osteoarthritis depends on symptom severity, activity levels and individual goals. At The Coriel Clinic, we provide personalised, consultant-led care with a range of treatment options, from conservative approaches to surgical intervention where appropriate.

Conservative (Non-Surgical) Treatments

Many patients benefit from non-surgical management, which may include:

  • Targeted strengthening and load management
  • Weight management guidance where relevant
  • Pain relief strategies and activity modification
  • Physiotherapy programmes and home exercises
  • We offer several different  joint injections including steroid injection hyaluronic acid and more recently Arthrosamid

These approaches focus on relieving symptoms, improving mobility and supporting long-term joint health without surgery.

Surgical Treatments

When conservative care does not provide sufficient relief and symptoms significantly impact daily life, surgical options may be considered. The most common surgical treatment for advanced knee osteoarthritis is knee replacement surgery, which can dramatically reduce pain and improve function. Surgery some younger patients with severe osteoarthritis may be suitable for an osteotomy. This involves realigning the bone to off load the damaged part of the knee.

Your consultant will discuss all suitable options with you, including the benefits, risks and recovery expectations, so you can make an informed decision about the best path forward for your care.

At The Coriel Clinic, our goal is to help you achieve lasting comfort, improved mobility and a return to the activities that matter most to you — with expert support at every stage.

Knee Replacement Surgery Prices Initial consultation is £250. Knee Replacement Surgery from £13,297. Price includes post operative appointment.
