Expert care for rotator cuff injuries, focused on reducing pain and improving comfortable shoulder movement.

A rotator cuff tear involves damage to one or more of the tendons that stabilise and move the shoulder joint. This type of injury can occur suddenly due to trauma or develop gradually over time due to wear and tear, repetitive overhead activity, age-related degeneration or tendon overload.

Rotator cuff tears can cause pain, weakness and limited shoulder movement that affects daily activities such as lifting, reaching or even dressing. At The Coriel Clinic, our consultant-led specialists provide expert assessment, accurate diagnosis and tailored treatment plans designed to help relieve symptoms, improve shoulder mechanics and support your recovery.

What Are the Symptoms of Rotator Cuff Tears?

Symptoms can vary depending on the severity and specific condition, but commonly include:

  • Pain around the front or side of the shoulder, especially with overhead activity
  • Aching or sharp pain at rest or during movement
  • Weakness when lifting or rotating the arm.
  • Difficulty reaching behind your back or overhead.
  • Pain that disturbs sleep, particularly when lying on the affected side
  • A catching, clicking or grinding sensation in the shoulder.

Symptoms often develop gradually but can also occur suddenly after injury. If left untreated, shoulder weakness and discomfort may worsen and affect daily function.

What Treatments Are Available for Rotator Cuff Tears?

Treatment for a rotator cuff tear depends on the size of the tear, symptom severity, activity levels and your individual goals. At The Coriel Clinic, we provide personalised, consultant-led care with both non-surgical and surgical options when appropriate.

Conservative (Non-Surgical) Treatments

Many patients benefit from non-surgical management, particularly with small or partial tears:

  • Activity modification to reduce pain-provoking movements.
  • Targeted physiotherapy to improve strength, flexibility and shoulder mechanics.
  • Pain-relief and anti-inflammatory measures to reduce discomfort.
  • Corticosteroid or image-guided injections for targeted pain relief

These approaches aim to reduce symptoms, support muscle strength and improve function without surgery where possible.

Surgical Treatments

Surgery may be recommended when symptoms persist despite conservative care, or when a significant tear impacts function and quality of life. Surgical options typically include:

  • Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair to re-attach torn tendon tissue
  • Open or mini-open repair techniques depending on tear complexity.
  • Sub-acromial decompression if impingement is a contributing factor.

Your consultant will discuss all suitable treatment options with you, including expected benefits, risks and recovery guidance, so you can make an informed decision about your care.

At The Coriel Clinic, our goal is to help you achieve lasting pain relief, improved shoulder strength and greater confidence in shoulder movement through expert support at every stage of your treatment journey.
