Hip and Knee Specialist

Mr Shankar Thiagarajah MBChB DipSEM PhD FRCS (Tr&Orth) is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee replacement, revision surgery and young adult hip preservation. His NHS consultant post is based at Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals, and he brings extensive international fellowship training to his clinical practice.

Mr Thiagarajah is dual post-CCT fellowship trained, having completed advanced hip and knee arthroplasty and reconstruction training at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Canada, and specialist young adult hip preservation training at University College London Hospital. He qualified in Medicine at the University of Manchester in 2003 and completed his orthopaedic training on the South Yorkshire rotation.

In 2017, he was awarded a PhD from the University of Sheffield for his multi-centre research into the genetics of hip osteoarthritis and hip shape. He has received several prestigious research awards and remains committed to innovation, evidence-based care and patient safety. Mr Thiagarajah performs a full range of hip and knee procedures, including complex revision surgery and advanced hip preservation techniques, and sees patients at The Coriel Clinic,  Thornbury Hospital and Park Hill Hospital.
